Explore GrapheneOSWhat is GrapheneOS?
GrapheneOS is a privacy and security focused mobile operating system based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), designed specifically for supported Google Pixel phones. It is designed to provide stronger protection than a standard Android installation while still remaining practical for everyday smartphone use.
GrapheneOS adds extensive security hardening and gives the user greater control over applications, network access, permissions, location, camera, microphone and other sensitive information.
For many users, this means having a familiar Android-style phone without automatically giving every application or service more access than it needs.
Ready for Everyday Use
We configure compatible Google Pixel phones with GrapheneOS, security settings, privacy controls and the applications you actually need.
The aim is not to make the phone difficult to use. It is to provide a practical smartphone with substantially greater control over privacy and security.
More Control Over Your Smartphone
GrapheneOS adds privacy and security protections while allowing the phone to remain useful for normal personal and business applications.
Stronger Device Protection
GrapheneOS includes additional operating system hardening designed to make exploitation more difficult and reduce the impact of security vulnerabilities.
Better Permission Control
Control which applications can access sensitive features such as location, camera, microphone, contacts and files.
Application Sandboxing
Applications operate inside controlled sandboxes which help restrict access to other applications and information stored on the phone.
Application Network Control
GrapheneOS provides additional control over whether individual applications are permitted to access the internet.
Separate User Profiles
Separate profiles can be used to isolate personal, business or sensitive applications and information from each other.
Ongoing Security Updates
Supported GrapheneOS devices receive ongoing operating system, privacy and security updates.
Yes. Google Play can be installed on GrapheneOS when it is required, but it operates differently from Google Play on a conventional Android phone.
GrapheneOS allows the official Google Play applications to run inside the standard application sandbox. They do not receive the special privileged system access normally provided on mainstream Android devices.
This allows many applications that rely on Google Play services to continue working while giving the user much greater control over what Google services can access.
Google Maps can be installed.
YouTube and other Google applications can be used.
Many apps requiring Google Play services continue to function.
Google Play can be limited to a specific user profile.
Google services do not receive special operating system privileges.

GrapheneOS Phone Questions
Straightforward answers to common questions about GrapheneOS, privacy hardened phones and everyday application compatibility.
1. What is a GrapheneOS phone?
A GrapheneOS phone is a supported smartphone running the GrapheneOS privacy and security focused Android operating system instead of the manufacturer's standard Android software. GrapheneOS adds additional security hardening and privacy controls while remaining compatible with a large range of Android applications.
2. Which phones can run GrapheneOS?
GrapheneOS officially supports specific Google Pixel devices which meet its hardware security and operating system requirements. Compatibility depends on the exact Pixel model and its remaining manufacturer support period, so we check device suitability before installation.
3. Can I use normal Android apps on GrapheneOS?
Yes. Most standard Android applications can be installed on GrapheneOS. Sandboxed Google Play can also be installed when an application depends on Google Play services. Some applications with unusual security or device certification requirements may have compatibility limitations.
4. Does GrapheneOS stop Google tracking?
GrapheneOS does not include Google Play by default. If Google Play is installed, it runs as ordinary sandboxed applications without the privileged operating system access normally provided on standard Android phones. Your privacy will still depend on the applications and services you choose to use and the information you provide to them.
5. Is GrapheneOS completely anonymous and untraceable?
No. GrapheneOS provides significant privacy and security improvements, but it does not make a smartphone magically anonymous or untraceable. Mobile networks, online accounts, websites and applications can still identify or collect information about a user. The best results come from combining GrapheneOS with appropriate privacy settings, secure accounts, sensible applications and good security practices.
